Jazz at the Native Yards @ Woordfees 2018
Cape Town Music Academy and US Woordfees present Jazz in the Native Yards, a new music venue and meeting place at the US Woordfees 2018, featuring some of South Africa’s freshest jazz musicians. This unique musical experience is the first of its kind ever at Woordfees.
“Jazz is the language of the Cape,” says Nico McLachlan, CTMA chairman. “And this year the Cape Town Music Academy and Jazz in the Native Yards create an intimate late night space in the heart of Stellenbosch in which we can share the experience of the listening to the sounds of the Cape”
“The city of Cape Town has always been abuzz with jazz music,” adds Koko Nkalashe of JINY. “JINY is now taking the sound through the vehicles like the Woordfees to where the people are, in a new jazz route and revival, past Muizenberg, Mitchell’s Plain, Khayelitsha and as far as Stellenbosch.”
The line-up consists of lead jazz musicians who will perform at 20:00 every night over five days at the Visual Arts Department Quad, Victoria Street at the University of Stellenbosch:
|7 March||Siya Makuzeni Sextet|
|8 March||Bongani Sotshononda and the United Nations of Africa|
|9 March||Ramon Alexander|
|10 March||Reza Khota and band|
|11 March||IYONDE (Sisonke Xonti & Bokani Dyer).
There is also a cash bar available and an exciting DJ line-up including the likes of Future Nostalgia and Bhoeta Gee will follow performances each night.
